Badan Song: Tine and Frane by VulnePro Badan Song: Tine and Frane by VulnePro
Ola everyone!

OK, here we have the first, of many, character sheets for Badan Song, a little something set in the TKP project. Badan was a major event of humanities foggy past commonly viewed as myth or legend.

I'll be a tad cagey here as I won't get into too much detail about this project other than to say it's something we're working on quietly behind the scenes ;) That said there will be plenty of peeks of the material that I'll post here.

Tine is an operative of the mysterious Order of the Law of One and his partner is a combat taedus (sendai, the most common bio-mechanical lifeforms in the TKP setting) manufactured by Dies. For now, we'll say these two are very much your cloak and dagger type operatives working in a deep world of things unseen and unknown by the general populace of SOL. During Badan Song they are both on the run and in possession of the McGuffin central to the story. More to be added as we reveal more of the project. For now just a peek ;)

More to come...

I've been seeing you post pieces for this project for quite a while now, and forgive me I'm not entirely sure what the project is, but I'm intrigued on just the designs alone. and the tidbits you have given out. Just wanted to take a minute and comment on the great work you have going with this project...looking forward to seeing future posts of it.

Apologies for the late reply, it's been some crazy few months.

My thanks for the kind words and interest in the project. It was, and still ultimately is, an intended animation pitch in it's intent. However, since the economy took a tank our game plan is simply to continue to have fun producing the art and sharing it with everyone here. It's still no less serious in intent but I'd rather keep having fun with it than worry about when it will get the financing to produce it :)

I see it happening eventually, for now we'll keep creating in our universe's sandbox.

No problem man... I know all too well about being busy...and I appreciate the reply... I understand about the whole economy thing, been dealing with that myself...and pretty much following the same game plan as your project... All in all I really like what you have been posting, and I wish you all best....

very nice character designs. something about the Tine's straight on head views makes him look like he's a big of a dick, but I think that's jsut how you did the inner portion of his brow, defined the area around the nose and dropped a shadow on the lips.
on the other hand I like the color pallet and the apparent thickness of the coats they are wearing. the belt on Tine's is rad looking.
And I've got to say I like how you straight up call the item they have the McGuffin.

XD Now that's amusing, Tine does look kinda pissed.

Well, he kinda is, more unhinged than dickish. Without getting into story details we'll just say he's pretty stressed out and pushed to the limit due to being on the run. Won't say any more other than, yeah, he's a bit unhinged but still in command of his faculties.

On the clothes the setting is a vast, enclosed, wasteland of architecture and industry so it's not always very well regulated as to temperature. Warm clothes or jackets tend to be common dress. Glad you dug the outfits.

My thanks for the kind works and interesting comments man, I appreciate it :)

Cheers!

I don't think we see nearly enough of your character work. This looks great! Has anyone mentioned that this dude kinda looks like you yet?

Thanks a ton Brian :) Aye, indeed I always have done characters as well but haven't gotten around to posting more until now. You hope to see more and shall, there are more pending ;)

So far nobody has noted the character looks like me, nor was it intentional, but I expect a little of us usually tends to sneak into character work. I've done others before that folks thought the same so I imagine it's some of me and some of my style, which... is some of me LOL

Thanks again :)

My thanks Travis, I really appreciate it man :) They're both updated versions of those same characters I actually designed many years back. Frane had that T shaped head on the first design and I totally kept that on the new one, with some tweaks here and there. I'll have more stuff from this little project soon :)

Cheers!

Btw, Badan have meaning body, if you translate it to Indonesian :)

Thank you :)

Interesting. I wasn't initially aware Badan had and specific meaning as I originally just made the word up for the story. Later I discovered it was Welsh for Boar but didn't know it also was Indonesian for Body. Oddly body is somewhat fitting in the sense of context it means in the story but still not precisely the meaning. Badan in the story is not connected to those source meanings, instead it means change, sweeping change.

I love learning stuff like this though. While I do try to do a lot of research for this stuff I also pull things from imagination and find, later, there's some real world context after all.

Excellent character designs! Getting almost a space-opera KPG vibe. Is their gear standard issue as black ops agents for this shady Order?

Frane's cube-ish head is reminding me a bit of Toji, (big hulkin' space Karate dude from Battle Angel Alita -Last Order). But his face is much more interesting. Stylistically in tune w/ some combat foils...

Thank ya Rob :) Glad you dig them, more to come soon ;)

KPG? I confess that isn't clicking with me but expect I'l go,DOH! when you tell me what you're talking about. Aye, TKP does indeed have a sweeping Space Opera vibe to a degree so you're not off on that at all. The outfits I would see as more standard combat style gear but not terribly attention drawing in the sense of them being a common agency's set of gear.

Ahh, Alita Last Order :) I haven't had the opportunity to check all of that one out (have read the original Gunnm/Alita manga arc though, loved it) so I don't know that specific character. Love Kishiro's work though, it's some incredible stuff.

 Crap, I meant KGB!! Does that make more sense? It's the color palette; discreet, a little dreary and oppressive. + cloak and dagger... and I meant KGB. :ashamed: :dohtwo: I guess my question is aimed at determining if their gear and color/mood is indicative of the world from which they hail. Would one be able to spot them, and know immediately what organization they're from, the way me might with some kind of special police force uniform (a good example escapes me). I dig that they compliment each other stylistically. IMO it suggests routinized uniformity. Rather than, say, two detectives, or independent operatives, wearing totally different civvies.

Consider this my official endorsement for Last Order. As a fellow disciple of Kishiro, gotta respect the next Alita testament. If you were bummed like me when the first series ended in a brisk whirlwind... well, just know it ain't over. He somehow balances frivolity and substance in one great ride. Mad storytelling. Romping around in directions you'd never expect, but totally relish. Nuff about Kishiro tho, didn't mean to diverge from the TKP focus. Just one of those things a writer is grateful to absorb.

And I, as predicted go, DOH!

I wondered if you meant KGB :) Well, here I have to say your observations are even more astute with the added details you've noted. Yes, you're very on target, the colors ARE a big giveaway but not so much specific organizations again but more locational I suppose, so yes the world they hail. Indus is literally a giant maze of architecture so none of it is lit by sunlight (unless on the surface and it's not habitable), it's all artificial lighting. With this in mind a lot of Indus is bathed in sodium vapor amber and greenish hues so urban "cammo" would likely follow suit. Therefore you get a lot of combat gear and combat sendai sporting colors that are warm amber to green hues as it would blend more with the artificial lighting. Excellent questions man and spot on.

Yes also to routinized uniformity, they are wearing that gear as par for the course. My comments about the commonality or non-commonality was more in regard that this particular organization is so deep that it doesn't have any real political or national origin, it's something beyond that entirely. These guys are definitely covert operatives and not even in the same territory as detectives. not so much stealth black ops types as they are non-descript and subtle in their actions and behavior. We'll have some detectives showing up here soon ;)

Happy to discuss or answer questions as I post this stuff. Though so much is still a mystery to your guys it's a lot of fun seeing the speculations and where the discussions sometimes go :)

My thanks, as always!
