So far the FOILs have gotten a lot of love in this gallery (and more are pending) at the expense of showing more of the sendai, the FOILs much, much smaller kin. Sendai will appear more and more in future postings as their population numbers are rather large in the SOL system.
As the war escalates to alarming proportions on Polemos stability begins to erode on Indus as well. The sendai population, now gaining a spiritual inclination their human owners have abandoned long ago, begin to mobilize politically, and socially for more freedoms. In doing so many turn to violent means as one such revolutionary minded S.A.D.U.S. (Self Aware Defense Utility System) takes the path of blood.
This one is a Jiendel manufactured SADUS with likely multiple brains that may not always agree on who's in charge. Clearly this can lead to problems. The small bio-mechanical fella (this one aprox 5 feet in height) is wielding a Geind Machine Stein Shettier (Stein being rifle variant Shette weapons).
The scene is on Indus, hence Theos ke Basilea as the Indus storyline dovetails into conclusion of the entire arc.

Slight edit: suggested adding some additional highlights from the muzzle flash, something I had planned to do. Sneaky Photoshop buggered my Spyder color profile with a crash so I had to fix it. I did want to do that highlight addition so I tweaked the colors back to the punchier orange the file was supposed to have and booya, we have edit with muzzle flash highlight! I can see doing a few more tweaks but later it shall be. Damn crash has me wanting to give it a rest O_o Nothing major, just a typical Photoshop freeze.
Thanks a lot man There will be more stuff like this coming. Indeed the idea would be something with a lot of 3D work akin to Appleseed but not exactly the same either. There were things I dug with Appleseed's look and things I didn't.
I have some edits to do on this one so I'll prob be posting an updated file soon

Despite the technical setbacks, the colors and composition came out looking awesome. I noticed and appreciated the muzzle flash + dramatic highlights before even reading the comments bellow. If the actual animation cells look anything like this in final production... I'll crap me knickers.
Regarding Appleseed's look; hope you've seen (and are referencing) the recent '07 Ex Machina. The new 'toon shading' technique is a stunning improvement over the previous 'cell shaded' look of the '04 animation.
Love the multiple brain concept described above. Consider me hooked on the Polemos plotline morsels. Since Animation production is such a huge undertaking and lengthy process, I find myself craving more of the story in an illustrated novel format; A more immediately gratifying and accessible format. Illustrations like the one above, + literature... in sequence, would make a fine meal indeed.
Hell, throw some essays and concept pages in back, Shirow style, and I'm one happy fanatic.
My thanks Rob, your comments and support is always appreciated I just uploaded another edit to the piece. The technical issue wasn't a big thing, just an annoyance that was frustrating at the time, one of those take a break from it kinda things.
Aye, I was referring the EX Machina in the post above and agree the new film is a huge improvement. I see this project would benefit from some of that technology as the look I'm after would require something similar, always had that in mind.
There will be more stuff like this to come, a lot more. As to illustrated story/graphic novel, possible, possible. Not the primary focus but I have thought about doing something short and fun in that vein Regardless, expect more work, more snippets of story/setting.

Can't say you've seen this specific piece as it wasn't inspired specifically by anything else nor would it have been posted anywhere else, I just finished it today I imagine there have been similar type of shots though as many bot/dude/alien shooting big-ass gun from the hip images have been created from time to time. This one be a new one though, all it's own

Problem w/ duplicating that incredible EX Machina look, is the humongous studio budget. Watching the DVD extras, seeing that endless grid of artists slaving away at their work stations, makes one appreciate that quality is often and tragically linked to formidable financing. Or slave animator labor.
Producing a book format might be too distracting/time consuming, but seems like much of the grunt work has been done and polished already, no? Very glad that you've considered it tho.
Will be craving more hearty snippets in the meantime.
Aye, highlights on cape, little highlights here and there, some on the wood on the far wall.
Indeed this will cost a reasonable amount to really do it justice. For now I'm happy to post, share, and build some buzz on the internets as I know this is a large undertaking. Being I've been involved in a few pitches for other TV animation projects and have one pending I'm taking things a step at a time. I can't elaborate on those unfortunately but can say if this other project gets off the ground it will grease the wheels for things like Theos in the future. I plan to keep busy
Certainly more snippets to come.

There are a lot of themes that run through the stock gallery many people have similar ideas but they pull them off in different ways. In this series of newsletters we will look at similar ideas but different outcomes.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
