Dharga-Zatwa collab CG color by VulnePro Dharga-Zatwa collab CG color by VulnePro
Ola folks, finally had some time to do the next collaboration between myself and This machine is a larger two seater used by the same faction operating the Zidharta mech that was the previous design I colored. I kept the desert theme on this one only this time the cammo is a more angular pattern breaker rather than the organic and spotted pattern on the Zidharta. I really beat this one up, rust, paint chips, scratches, oil stains, dirt, etc. I figure a machine like this would be as roughed up as a tank would with heavy service and that's the feel I gave it. I have to say I love painting GP's designs as I feel they're incredibly imaginative and visually interesting. Overall this didn't take long to paint at all, it took me forever to post it cause freelance has been consuming a lot of my time. There will be more in the future so stay tuned.

Linework and design by and also I need to point out the Eye graphic was rendered by him as well :)

CG colors by me, Photoshop 7.0, Painter 9

There's an odd contrast between the feet and the rest of the body. The body is very bulky and sturdy, while the feet are a bit spindly. It's aesthetically pleasing, but the technical ramifications are worrying.

Of course, if the universe this is built to operate in is one in which there is little emphasis placed on small matters of practicality such as that, as I suspect it is, then this does not constitute a serious problem.

LOL Well I take that as a nice compliment. As I said in my other response with the FOIL, just keep practicing, keep looking at various things for ideas and don't be afraid to experiment. The more you practice at something the better you'll be, just takes time :)

He is also a collector of guitars as well if I remember right, a big Stratocaster fan. Can't fault him on that though, I have two guitars myself one of which is a Les Paul :)

yeah, he seems to incorporate a lot of musical terms as well as band names in his stuff; heavy metal (L-gaim), LED, Mortar Headd (FSS) etc.
he’s a complex character indeed :)

Thanks, I must say doing all the weathering touches is one of the best parts of the process as it puts a piece of this kind right over the top, gives it that very real and used feel.

The painted eye which turns the sensor slit into a toothy grin, and the rust stains, simply puts this over the top.

Thank you, I agree the sensor mouth slit is pretty fab, the design suggestion of it and the eye graphic are all I simply added the eye to the piece ;) The colors are all me though and I had a ball with it.

My thanks :) All of that is hand painted as I find it a far more natural aproach than using a filter or textured brush, though some texture brush's can work wonders if used in the right spots. Rust is always a great accent for a militery machine, it's always there on old WWII machines.

Thank man, it's all about crankin' out the crazy. As you know I've always been nuts with dirting up my mechanical hardware in Photoshop, it always has an effect of pushing a design where it should be for realism.

a very stylish design, but very non-functional in the arms, and i think the torso can't twist. Someone needs some Popular Mechanics in their diet.

Indeed I agree the machine is quite stylish and often there are concept works that go for aesthetic appeal or wild visual cues over utter realism in functionality. Being I didn't design this mech I can only comment on what I know about the machine. GP and I had discussed these machines a bit on another posting and the notion of real military hardware with half-baked and flawed design philosophy came up as an often ignored factor in conceptual design. All too often the impulse is to design mechanics with flawless functionality in mind. here I know GP was going for the notion that some of these machines efficiency would not be as effective as they should be. WWII is littered with such military hardware snafus and miscreants so there is a huge precedent for this. I believe the arms of this machine are primarily cannons and the hands are simply manipulators and not intended for precise grasping, of say, a secondary weapon. The locked torso is something I personally find interesting as yes it would be a mobility flaw and makes combat in this thing harrowing. The average mortality of a WWII tank crew was pretty high so again same idea here. Just some thoughts as your post was a valid observation without question.

That touch is al He rendered the graphic and sent it over to me and I added it last. I agree it kicks ass and the illusion of the "face" on the nose is VERY cool and very WWII which is the look we both were after with this collab.

You've outdone yourself with the colouring here. There's so much detail I've spent the last 5 minutes slowly looking over each part. The wethered and battered look is really well achieved and the little face it has is almost adorable!

Thank you kindly. Yeah, I kinda went to town on this and overall it really give it a hardcore weathered tour of duty look. This is somehting I have been doing on my own designs, as you know, and really it just seemed natural to extend it to GP's works as well seeing as how we share similar tastes in mecha design. I have a new FOIL to be posted very sool all dirtied up as well.
