Funny how one thing can end up something entirely different when you’re producing it. Originally this piece was to be a speed paint, I planned to do yesterday, of an F-15 with a refueling arm attached (Needless to say not really a speed paint now but still completed in the past twos days time). While looking at the photo I planned to ref I thought, “This would be way cool if I made it a Valkyrie from Macross instead”, and this is what happened. The PSD file does have a refueling arm version as well and I may post it but ultimately I omitted it because it was too similar of color (the one thing I did keep from the F-15 ref was the colors, I ditched the angle of the plane and the rest). I liked the military gray the F-15 had so the VF-1S got it too. It's also kinda funny how, after all this time, this is the first Macross art I've ever done and I came to love animation watching Robotech in the 80s. Well Mr. Shoji Kawamori, I tip my hat to you, the Valkyrie is STILL a cool design.
Straight to Wacom digital paint, Photoshop 7.0 and some touch up work in Painter 9
