Proletarian Sendai 02 by VulnePro Proletarian Sendai 02 by VulnePro
Another pair of rank & file sendai of the proletariat just lounging about on a smoke break apparently.

Indeed sendai keenly partake in filling their lungs with carcinogens. These are not the familiar tobacco, of today, but more of a spiced incense-like concoction that sendai have grown fond of. The smokes are called lidos (lyedos) or, simply smokes, being they're not actually cigarettes in the classic sense. Naturally this also adds to the classic film noir sensibilities 'Whispers of the Deep' will have.

The fellow on the left is a Täppco model sendai. Täppco are known for their deco style toaster or radio head type sendai. This example clearly follows suit, though he has a very radiator kinda vibe going on too. Other Täppco guys can be seen here:

The sendai on the right... he looks like a sneaky sneak, with his stylish feature obscuring hoodie.

More to come...

Now this I like :) The design has the playful energy of the likes masters like Shirow pull off in Appleseed. Nice!

Very kind words indeed and flattering comparison. I grew up with manga like Appleseed and Akira (in fact I was collecting them when they first went into publication here, late 80s-early 90s) as inspirations so, to a degree, my work owes a debt to them. Though TKP is not Appleseed I think a lot of fans of Shirow's work will dig much of what we have planned because the Theos project does have some old school flavor to it for sure. Thanks!

What ya lookin at, the sendai rasped at me.
Am looking for a girl, I said. The sendai, Little mickie, took a drag from his smoke while the neon lights from the gin joint across the street flashed red and blue on his shiny dented metal head.

"I don't do that stuff no more officer", he droned. "I am not a cop and I can make it worth your while", I said, showing the hologram of the missing heiress. Could see the glow in Little Mickie's eyes get brighter, the prospect of extra credits got his attention.

The rain just kept coming down, this town is cursed, its been raining ever since the planet settled in orbit. I waited while the sendai decided whether to help me or not, while the cold rain dripped off his head and ice water slowly found its way through the gaps in my raincoat.

Looks great.

Sendai are not the kind of guy you want to run into in a dark alleyway if you've been bad to them. They strike me as the "united minority" kind of beings. Very nice job on the backstory!

Indeed some of them would be very bad to run into in a dark alley. You're impression is pretty close to what they are and my thanks for the comments and kind words :)

Woah.
With all that attitued and personality in their posture,
they seem more than just robots,
even more than drawing in general.
You even have such an in depth categorization of them.
I must dig deeper into your world or work...

They're AIs, so why do they wear clothes? I'd understand if they were cyborgs, there'd be some leftover personality.

I have never indicated these guys were A.I.s in any postings about them (sendai) and have, in fact, made a point to indicate they were something else entirely. They've always been bio-mechanical lifeforms, living creatures altogether. They are very much fully sentient characters. Sendai are lifeforms augmented mechanically so in that sense they are closer to a cyborg in nature but they are not augmented humans either, again something else. I can't reveal entirely what they are but that's the basic idea ;)

That said, if they were A.I. how can anyone say they wouldn't wear clothes or have a sense of character? There's more than enough examples of robots wearing clothes in science fiction or having developed sense of character and self so there's nothing unusual about that as a speculative concept.

Okay, point taken.

They're not augmented humans but if they have fashion sense they are closer to human than anything else.

The AIs I've read about usually have character but little dress sense. As you say, it doesn't mean they wouldn't.

Yes, though they are not humans they are made by humans and are living within a human dominated social and economic system so they're behaviors do tend to bleed into human traits. They also have their own unique;y non-human behavior as well but, overall, they're living in a human world.

Yeah, I don't think it's a bad question to pose if an A.I. would do that but it's not something we can have an answer for as it's purely speculative at this point. reality has a way of throwing curve balls so it's always difficult to make solid predictions of where something like that might stand when there's no working real-world model to base it off of.

With fiction its just that, fiction and left to the author to provide those kind of speculations. If it works in the context of the story and setting then anything goes.

I have to tell ya, I absolutely love the attitude these guys have. I can really see them out there in the world, glaring at me through the steam rising from the gutters, with the rain pattering on their hard-shelled heads...and smoking, too! Absurd, awesome.

Big thanks for the kind words and impressions man, it's good they're coming through that way :) These guys are all about character, seeing as they're not really robots but actually something else altogether (which I will elaborate a bit more in response to the poster below).

Awesome. I have to admit, I have not been paying a ton of attention to the fiction, although I really appreciate how much backstory there is for all the concepts you do.

No sweat on that man, all that info is really there more for the growing fans of this stuff so I don't expect everyone to be up on it. There are more and more questions regarding the work so it's fun providing those extra details for people. It's great folks are getting into it though so I always try to put down a little something related to the story but never any real narrative details (spoilers, etc). My thanks again!
