On this historic night of a sweeping Obama win I post new a new FOIL beastie, albeit a variant With the sense the country is ready to head in the right direction now (hopefully) I continue posting material for this ambitious project and, as always, I'm heartened and gratified by your enthusiasm and support. My thanks Here's to new opportunities and the path forward looking a little brighter.
Here we have an alt version of the Jiendel Gavil Strumblatt in a cammo pattern of grays, pattern breaker merging into spotty on top. Combat Frame 2 (CF-2) of the same manufacturing line as the previous posted Strumblatt... CF-2 [link] , DOH! I'll have to change the TAC Numbers, totally forgot to change them on this one. This machine has an extended sensor nosecone type head that looks almost like an aggressive blade pushing forward. This sensor head type comes off as a more visually aggressive silhouette and the machine looks more intimidating because of this.
The tac marking are more tribal on this one and ultimately more the common style we'll be seeing on these machines. The girl nose art certainly the human component of the FOIL's identity as it was added by the human pilot.
The Strumblatt FOILs are light CAV machines and more of a dueling machine in intent and design. Again, though the head is a fixed design the machine's vision is 360 in nature so head movement isn't required but even in fixed head designs parts still are movable and the reality this is a living weapon still comes across very effectively.
Certainly done overall but I may noodle with it more as weathering them is a blast. More to come!
Full digital paint: Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Painter X
Thanks a ton Ka and great to see you drop in Aye, they are ending up with a sorta semi 3D model vibe. I think it's more to do with my approach to weathering them than anything. They're a blast to paint, I can tell you that much and also an interesting challenge to work out
Beautiful work! I love the sense of curving volumes on this one...That diffuse lighting really reinforces the sense of rounded forms.
This one almost evokes Five Star Stories for me, which is a different impression than I've gotten from your other mechs...Just a little bit different stylistically than what I've seen from you in the past. It looks really good!
Thanks a lot. The curving and sweeping forms on the head are inspired by Futurist art (the art movement with ties to Cubism) so I, without question, accentuated the organic shapes and forms.
It's interesting as to the FFS thing. I was never directly inspired by that either but indeed these are machines designed to duel and exist in an unusual honor based code of combat. There will be more and more posted as they are fun to design and always a challenge.
Great mech, man. I really enjoy how different your style is. It makes me wish that you were involved with designing Nexts in the armored core series. xD
