Now we’re talking, here are two concept image art illos of some current designs, we have some 4 legged artillery whup-ass in the form of two walking tanks, one made by Vulne Consortium, the other Germane. The top machine, the Blid Wolfspinne was clearly inspired, once again, by WWII German armor, more the fixed barrel Jagdpanzer style. Overall it’s a purely original take on the look but the wedge angle body is clearly based on the old German tanks. The bottom machine, the Vulne Hautfield is a more modern looking design and really has no basis or influence; it was just riffed from my head. The two floating machines are satellite targeting, ranging, and battlefield assessment sendai drones that can often accompany these type of tanks. Both illos have a little loosey goosy feel in spots that I kinda like. When I showed a preview peek he had said they reminded him of the Dougram walker tanks. I take that as a rather fab compliment as old school mecha has always had a soft spot in me

EDIT 01/31/2006: I uploaded an updated version of the image with the bottom tank getting some very subtle smoke effects to imply the shockwave from firing its cannon. I also added some subtle vibration dust coming off the tank due to the machine reacting to the discharge kick and bloomed out the muzzle flash a little more. These are all very subtle but noticeable for effect. I planned to do this stuff but forgot and thanks to a friend commenting I added it in there
A legged assault gun! Now that's a rare sight. The gunbarrel snout coupled with the legs give it a certain bestial look. BTW, are those wheels spheroids?
I just remembered that the Germans used a type of gun mantlet called a saukopf (boar's snout)--synchronicity!
Have been playing the demo of Empire at war.
Its a Star Wars based conquer the galaxy game.
The demo has a mission with 2 parts, a space battle and a planetary invasion.
Its played from the rebel's point of view. One of the highlights is the Empire's walkers creaking/stomping around on the battlefield. The big walker, (I forgot the star wars name for it) easily dwarfs all the other units Empire and Rebel.

Indeedy I was going for a German assault gun vibe with this tank. It’s loosely based on a German look but absolutely was inspired by them. I think old school walker tanks are something we don’t see enough, let along regular treaded armor in anime with mecha involved so I wanted to include them.
The legs do have tires thought the entire ball doesn’t spin, just a tire ring in the center, it’s a bit of a fanciful concept I suppose but Patlabor 2 did it so I suppose I can get away with it too XD The illo just worked better to have the tank trucking along kicking up smoke and a rooster tail of dirt.

Thank, glad you dig it. This thing isn't as big as those Star Wars beasties, it's about the size of a regular tank with the legs attached to expand that profile.

Across the globe, 27 million men, women, and children live in some form of slavery. That is more people at this moment than in all the centuries of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Something must be done. This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.
