Artist's Comments

The first of many more illustrations of this kind to come cracking out old school traditional media. I have every intention of continuing to produce the pimped out digital paints and illustrations everyone has become familiar with for Theos but I also intend to do more fast sketches like these. With freelance work frequently creating pauses in posting going quick and loose like this is a good way to go and I planned to do so anyhow ;)

Here we have two rough concepts of Polemos settings and environments. Both are based on European settings so there is a basis in reality but the idea is that in the fractured future of Theos Ke Polemos there will be echoes of the past in the visual design and architectural styles. All too often sci-fi settings have this clean and sterile look. For Polemos I intended to approach it with a very old world picturesque European feel retrofitted with strange design flourishes and retro future, almost steampunk pastiches. There will often be a quaint European village feel to many of the Polemos garrison towns with clear indications of heavy industrialization, pipes coming from somewhere belching out who knows what.

Interesting street view, looks a bit like a 'neo-greek village' if you know what i mean, very homey but industrial at the same time. And, isn't it refreshing to let your line loose and not care too much about details? I think I need to do atleast one free-sketch per week to stay sane from the stress of doing perfect lines. :D

An artist must create as often as possible. To cease this task is, to the soul of an artist, as ceasing to breathe.

Definitely has that European element, to my eyes. With the gritty industrial look slapped over that, I'm already wishing this was a 3D environment that could be navigated freely.

Lavishing attention on detailed backgrounds sure don't hurt for any worthy sci-fi epic. I'm getting hungrier with every new post for the final realization of this world. The anticipation is mounting...

Great work as always. BTW, is it just me, or do those big pipes (or whatever they are) look like giant wishbones?

Aye, you have the idea, sort of a neo industrial futurist Euro village feel and Greek villages fit the bill.

Yeah it's good to do fast loose stuff just to get ideas out quickly. Considering how many ideas are stuck in my head I planned to show a lot of this art as well as the finished and detailed stuff. More to come for sure. Thanks for dropping in :)
