He's home and continues doing well...

Mon Jan 31, 2011, 8:12 AM

I spent the entire day, yesterday, with my Father at the hospital.  His routine doctor's exam (unrelated to his exams regarding his broken arm, which has been healing fantastically) turned into discovering an aryhtmia in his heart so he was admitted right away (though it wasn't anything immediately life threatening).  So far the news hasn't been mortally grave or horribly alarming , however it's serious enough to warrent observation and a battery of testing. It's still too early to say how it might go but my hope is, what I'm gathering as somewhat on the positive side will be how it goes.  They more or less said this is treatable and he should be OK, so we'll see.  He was in good spirits overall, though not wanting to be there naturally. I'll be heading back today of course keeping him company. Please, by all means send best wishes, prayers, or whatever positive vibes are your inclination.

Thanks for reading and the support always.

Update: Sat Jan 29

I'm happy to report my Father is doing really well and the arrhythmia isn't life threatening or as serious as it was first diagnosed (he wasn't in any pain or discomfort, what so ever, when we admitted him to emergency, nor has he been in any before admitting. Only the arm pain).  It was good he was admitted to ensure it doesn't get serious but, overall, he's doing really good and the condition is treatable.  The testing is over and he's just in observation likely heading home in the next day or so.  Thank you to everyone who expressed kind wishes, we really appreciate it.  I have no idea how much that kinda thing helps but it certainly can't hurt.

Update: Mon Jan 31

My Father was discharged from the hospital, yesterday, and is doing very well so far.  I expect more doctors visits but the situation doesn't appear life threatening and he's well enough to be home.  Gonna have a busy few days though, much to take care of and catch up on.

Thank you all immensely for the kind words, well wishes, and comments.  We really do appreciate it.

Best!

Well, it's good to hear that he's doing well. I'm sure the arm and arrhythmia (sp?) are just going to be minor obstacles, really. But still, I wish you and your father the best!

Fuck, dude, that blows!
Hopefully he'll heal from that along with his arm. But I'd also follow OkiAkai's advice and spend lots of time with him.

Yeah, it's a bummer, mainly as to bills, but overall was for the best. He's doing quite well and getting him in there ensures he'll remain well hopefully for some time. We'll see.

Mike:

As you know, I'm always available for you. It's hard going through this, but odds are your father will be just fine. It's mind-blowing what they're able to do now with even severely damaged hearts. An arrhythmia, though serious, can be dealt with once they find just what's causing it. I expect he'll come through this as strongly as he's come through the arm injury.

Again, I know how hard it can be on you. If you need anything, even just a pep-talk, I'm here for you. Tell your dad he's gonna be all right, and I totally agree with MasterOkiAkai - be his friend and talk with him if he's up for it. You'll both come out of it stronger. I went through a quad-bypass with my pappy, and he's doing great now! Chin up, my friend!

My thanks Newton, it's really appreciated, believe me. He's doing quite well, thus far, and I talk to him every day so we talk plenty. W're going to keep a close eye on him and ensure he continues to do as well as possible.

So far so good :)

I'm glad!

Yeah, arrhythmia is something that can be an annoyance, but generally turns out to be not that major. I'm glad he's home and comfortable. Stay cool, bro.

Dude, my best wishes for you and your family and hope that everything turns well at the end.

I went through the same more that ten years ago, and at the end had to give CPR to my father and rush him to the hospital were he died. then last year I lost my mother in law in the same way.

I don't say this to scare you or anything just suggesting you and your family take a course on CPR and first aid, just in case. no one knows when that knowledge can come handy.

Again wish you and yours the best and take care of your dad.

Getting older is not for wimps. Sounds like he's facing down the inevitable problems before they catch him by surprise, which is a good thing.
